MN and BlueGreen Alliance Foundation Partner for Green Jobs Training
Anoka County, Minnesota is partnering with the BlueGreen Alliance Foundation to provide training for unemployed people as well as workers who need to upgrade their skills. The Anoka County Board recently approved a contract between the Anoka County Job Training Center and the BlueGreen Alliance Foundation by which the job training center will receive $43,831.
The funding will be used by the job training center to implement the foundation’s GreenPOWER manufacturing training program to serve 43 people, according to Sandy Froiland, job training center assistant director.
The job training center will recruit people to take part in the program through an outreach effort, provide the GreenPOWER manufacturing training for the participants at the job training center and work with local manufacturer partners on job placement, Froiland said.
Business partners include Pentair, Dayton Rogers, EW Ajax and Juno Inc., she said.
The $43,831 that Anoka County received was part of a $250,000 grant that the BlueGreen Alliance Foundation was awarded March 31 by the Minnesota State Energy Sector Partnership, which is an initiative of the Governor’s Workforce Development Council.
The foundation grant was awarded to the partnership between the county job training center, Anoka Technical College, Pentair and other manufacturers.
It is designed to combine the foundation’s GreenPOWER manufacturing training, customized to meet the needs of manufacturers, specifically in the precision sheet metal area. In addition to the sheet metal class, the students will also complete six BlueGreen training modules, designed by Purdue University, on Sustainability in Practice, Energy Management, Pollution Solutions, Waste Reduction, H2O Conservation and Green Chemistry.
The job training center is partnering with the technical college in two precision sheet metal training sessions that have taken place at the college in collaboration with the foundation.
According to the BlueGreen Alliance Foundation website, GreenPOWER is a free training program that provides both employers and manufacturing workers the skills needed to make their businesses competitive in an ever cleaner and more efficient marketplace.
GreenPOWER training was developed in cooperation with Purdue University’s green enterprise development program and uses hands-on teaching and real life case studies to provide workers the skills employers require in this “green economy.”
